You’re Not Afraid of Dying Alone: You’re Afraid of Loneliness Right Now

Why do people keep using this phrase when it actually reflects frustration and fear of the present moment rather than the unknown?

Maybe it’s just my neurodivergent ex tax law practitioner brain at work here: we get overly analytical and consider literal definitions of concepts and the wide interpretations they have. Especially if you handled tax controversy and audit defense. I do not miss my old field, but some parts are just unfortunately burned into my brain.

But as the chuds of the manosphere continue to blather completely incorrect things about how hormones work and coat women writers’ Medium posts about relationships and singlehood in enough verbal diarrhea to give Dodger Stadium a fresh coat of terra cotta, something they keep frothing at the mouth about is that all us selfish spoiled single Millennial women will “die alone with their cats” because we didn’t lock it down when we were young and hot.

Given that the last man who tried to date me joked about kidnapping me in his city and I responded, “How can you kidnap me? You were freaking born when I was watching the Monica Lewinsky hearings!” I concluded that I might be doing this whole “fat ugly childless crone” thing all wrong.

And come on, it’s “enjoy dying alone with your giant lizards and big blobby toads” in my case. The least you whinging chuds can do is get it right. Show how much you REALLY care!

But this essay goes beyond manosphere chuds and desirability politics, though. Or even gender altogether, come to think of it.

People constantly voice their own fears out loud that they’ll never find a partner, and there’s no hateful or resentful context to it. Rather, they point towards external factors like modern dating culture that makes everyone feel like a disposable option regardless of gender. I covered this through a demiromantic lens, the idea that someone only sees you as an object to alleviate their loneliness rather than want to be with you for who you are.
